Osceola man dies in accident

CHARITON — An Osceola man died after an accident 6:21 p.m. Jan. 10 on Highway 65 and the Chariton River bridge.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Ronald D. Woods, 75, of Osceola, was driving a 2010 Ford pickup with an attached fifth-wheel trailer north on Highway 65.

Woods lost control of of his vehicle because of the ice-covered bridge. The vehicle entered the west ditch and the passenger side struck a tree. Woods was not wearing a seat belt.

Woods was transported to Methodist Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. The accident is under investigation.
