Dan Sitzman Corning

Dan Sitzman, 56, of Corning died Jan. 6, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Celebration of life services were Friday, Jan. 10, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. The Rev. Jason Smith and Mike Sitzman officiated. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning. Masonic Rites were conducted by Instruction Lodge No. 275. Memorials may be directed to the Corning Fire Department building fund and/or Adams County Sheriff’s Reserve.

Dan L. Sitzman, son of Dorothy (Morgenstern) and Fred Sitzman, was born May 8, 1957, in Nebraska City, Neb.

Dan was raised in Hamburg, until moving to Osceola.

Dan graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1975.

On Jan. 6, 1979, Dan married Jeanette Brown at Osceola Christian Church.

Dan began farming in Clarke County.

In early years, Dan worked for a company that sandblasted and painted water towers. He also worked on a sanitation route for several years, and then started his career in law enforcement.

Dan started with Lucas County Sheriff’s Posse in 1991.

In 1993, Dan got his first full-time job as Murray chief of police. At that time, he attended and graduated from Iowa Law Enforcement Academy on March 11, 1994.

In June 1995, Dan joined the Lenox Police Department, where he served until 2001.  Dan joined Corning Police Department in 2000 and served until 2004, when he joined Adams County Sheriff Department and remained until his retirement in December 2012.

Dan was a member of Corning Masonic Instruction Lodge No. 275, Adams County Sheriff Reserves and Iowa State Sheriff’s and Deputies Association.

Dan is survived by his wife Jeanette Sitzman of Corning; sons, Jim Sitzman (significant other Madaline Waltz) of Orient and Thomas Sitzman (significant other Linda Coleman) and Brian Sitzman, all of Corning; grandchildren, Aiana, K.C., Sami and Braven Sitzman and Alexis, Joe, Samora and Roslia Scarpello; brothers, Joe (Pam) Sitzman of Woodburn and Mike Sitzman of Osceola; mother-in-law Lois Brown of Osceola; sisters, Sue Smith (significant other Randy Kernen) of Bedford, and Nancy (Brian) Helland of West Des Moines; sister-in-law Donna Sitzman of Oseola; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dave Sitzman, brother-in-law Dave Smith and father-in-law Marvin Brown.
