Breastfeeding 101 class scheduled

CRESTON — Breastfeeding is the perfect food for newborns and provides tremendous benefits to both mother and baby.

People have the opportunity to learn more about this healthy option at a “Breastfeeding 101” class 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Super 8 Hotel meeting room in Creston.

This is event is free and open to the public, so breastfeeding moms, pregnant women and anyone who would like to learn about breastfeeding is encouraged to attend.

The class sponsored by WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and is instructed by trained peer counselors and certified lactation consultants.

Registration is not required and refreshments will be provided.

WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for babies, children under the age of five, pregnant women, breastfeeding women and women who have had a baby in the last six months.

WIC helps families by providing healthy foods, nutrition education and referrals to other health-care agencies. The local WIC agency is managed by MATURA Action Corporation.
