Enid Updike, 96, of Van Wert died Dec. 16, 2013, at her home.
Services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. Interment was in Van Wert Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Van Wert United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.
Enid Elaine Updike, daughter of Bessie (Barbour) and Walter Scott Murchison, was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Williamsburg.
Enid grew up in the Garden Grove and Van Wert areas.
Enid graduated from Van Wert High School in 1934.
On June 27, 1936, Enid married Earl Stanley Updike at the United Methodist parsonage in Van Wert.
Enid and Earl lived on a farm near Van Wert from 1941 until 1950, when they moved into town. Earl was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis in 1948, and Enid cared for him.
Enid was a member of Van Wert United Methodist Church. She held many offices at the church, helped with Sunday School and prepared many dinners.
Enid is survived by her sons, Randall (Joyce) Updike of Osceola, Rowland (Connie) Updike of Van Wert and Troy (Barbara) Updike of Hopeville; daughter Mardis (Richard) DeVore of Bentonville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great- grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.
Enid was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Armond, sister Ermel; and grandchildren, Cynthia Heckman and Christy Updike.
