Elaine Newton Knoxville

Evelyn “Elaine” Newton, 85, of Knoxville, formerly of Pleasantville, died Dec. 16, 2013, at West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

Memorial services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola at a later date. Memorials may be given to Teen Challenge USA. Online condolences may be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com.

Evelyn Elaine (VanDall) Newton, daughter of Ethyl I. (Adamson) and Marvin C. VanDall Sr., was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Osceola.

Elaine grew up in Osceola and then moved with her family to Des Moines, where she graduated from East High School.

On Dec. 17, 1955, Elaine married Richard A. Newton Sr. in Bishop, Texas. The two were later divorced.

As a Navy wife, Elaine raised her family all over the United States. She held many different jobs over the years.

Elaine is survived by her children, Richard A. Newton Jr. (Ruth), Tamra R. Newton Lee (David) and Kay Ann Taylor; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and their spouses, Marvin C. VanDall Jr. (Frances (Rodda) VanDall), Jeanette (VanDall) Almeida and Helen (VanDall) Marshall (Gurn Marshall); and nephews, Todd Frey and Jeffrey Marshall.
