Lady Indians drop three

The Clarke girls basketball team will have its work cut out for it in order to win a fourth-straight South Central Conference crown.

The Lady Indians travel to Albia for the final game before the holiday break, and enter Friday’s contest with a 1-2 mark in league play.

Clarke stands at 1-7 overall after losses in the past week to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Carlisle and Bedford.

The E-B-F Rockets pulled away for a 59-33 win over the Lady Indians on Dec. 13, outscoring Clarke 22-8 in the fourth quarter.

Libby Bemis led the Lady Indians with 10 points to go with seven rebounds in the loss. Carley Robins added nine points with four boards and three assists. Senior Devon Carson chipped in six points with a team-high eight rebounds.

Maddi Heath scored five points and Baylie Balcaen added three points with six boards in the loss.

The next day, host Carlisle pulled away from the Lady Indians early in a 62-35 game.

Bemis once again led Clarke in scoring with 11 points, and also grabbed seven boards. Heath netted eight points, while Robins scored six points with four rebounds and three assists.

Balcaen scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. Carson scored four points with team-highs in rebounding with eight and steals with four.

Clarke dropped a 51-42 contest at Bedford on Monday. Stats were not available at press time.
