Clarke boys top E-B-F

The Clarke boys basketball team improved to 1-3 for the season and 1-1 in South Central Conference play with a 62-50 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Friday.

The Indians dropped to 1-5 overall, however, with an 84-31 loss on Saturday at Carlisle and a 53-44 loss at Bedford on Monday. Stats were not available at press time for those games.

Senior Colin Morris had another big game in the win over E-B-F, scoring 28 points on 11-of-21 shooting to go with eight rebounds and a team-high four steals.

But it was a Clarke freshman who stepped up as a secondary scorer for the Indians, as Troy Morgan dropped in 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-10 from behind the 3-point arc. Morgan also grabbed four rebounds.

Clarke overcame a 14-3 Rocket lead at the end of the first quarter, outscoring E-B-F 59-36 the rest of the way.

Brin Evins scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the win. Matt Blanchard added three points with seven rebounds and three blocks. Senior Jared Jamison dished out six assists to go with three steals and two blocks. Carlos Tamayo scored five points for the Indians.

Clarke travels to Albia on Friday in the team’s final game before the holiday break.
