Mary Case Lamoni

Mary Case, 79, of Lamoni died Dec. 8, 2013, at Decatur County Hospital in Leon.

Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Lamoni United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jodi Rushing officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni.Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Lamoni United Methodist Church or American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Mary Lorraine (Patterson) Case, daughter of Ola Faith (Merrill) and Henry Evander Patterson, was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Greenfield.

In 1944, Mary and her family moved to Weldon, where Mary graduated from high school.

Mary worked in Des Moines, until her marriage in 1955 to Glenn Ronald Case.

Mary was a member of Lamoni United Methodist Church, but also attended Weldon Methodist and Christian Churches. She served the two Weldon church and others as a lay speaker for several years.

Mary was also a member of Ophir Chapter Eastern Star in Osceola, for many years.

She moved to Lamoni in 1992, after an accident that left her unable to perform certain tasks. She lived in Crown Colony Retirement Center elderly housing in Lamoni, where she volunteered at the community meal site and was involved in Crown Colony activities. Mary served on the Colony Housing Authority Board of Directors for several years.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Carol Caldwell (friend Dave Mercier) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Garnet (husband Jim) Coulthard of Lamoni; grandchildren, Julie, Jimmy, Andrew, Carlos, Cassi, Colton, Jonathan and Michelle; eight great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; brother Robert (wife Evelyn) Patterson of Buffalo, Mo.; brother-in-law James McFarland of Earlham; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen Case, sister Ruth McFarland and aunt and uncle, Sylvia and Lawrence Merrill.
