Maurine Poore Osceola
Maurine Poore, 93, formerly of Osceola, died Dec. 4, 2013, at Karen Acres Care Center in Urbandale.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Osceola United Methodist Church. The Rev. Julie Poore officiated. Burial was in Grand River Cemetery. Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Osceola United Methodist Church in Maurine’s memory.
Maurine Poore, daughter of Gladys Orpha (Boles) and Walter Franklin Overholtzer, was born May 22, 1920, in Grand River.
Maurine grew up in the Grand River area and graduated from Grand River High School in 1938. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught country school for a few years.
On Dec. 26, 1941, Maurine married Glen Edward Poore in Beaconsfield.
After Glen’s Army discharge, the couple made their home near Grand River, where they farmed until 1958. They then moved to Osceola, where Maurine was a bookkeeper for Smith Oil Company. She retired after 28 years.
Maurine volunteered at the Clarke County Hospital gift shop and was a member of the hospital auxiliary. She also was a member of the United Methodist Women, church choir and T.T.T. Society Chapter EL.
Maurine is survived by her children, Martel (Beverly) Poore of Des Moines, Marleta (Dale) Scritchfield of Marshalltown and Marcia (Don) Lange of Osceola; grandchildren, Shawntel (John) McClelland of Altoona, Megan (Andrew) Ramspott of Waukesha, Wis., Eric (Kris) Lange of Osceola, Tyler (Molly) Scritchfield of Omaha, Neb., Trenton Poore (Christie) of Des Moines, Kyle (Jessica) Lange of Osceola and Alisha (Brian) Wilkinson of Des Moines; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Eula Williamson of Clearwater, Fla.; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sept. 10, 2006; and sister Merna McDowell.
