Charles Porterfield Henderson, Nev.

Charles Porterfield, 85, of Henderson, Nev., died Nov. 27, 2013, at Sunrise Senior Living of Henderson, Nev.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Murray, Iowa. Visitation with family present will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. Memorials may be given to Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, Kettering, Ohio. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Charles Elbert Porterfield, son of Emma “Ruby” (Tousley) and Merritt L. Porterfield, was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Osceola.

On June 17, 1950, Charles married Betty Lou Spellerberg in Murray.

Chuck graduated from Garden Grove High School and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.

Chuck was a veteran of the United States Army, having seen combat in Korea.

Chuck worked for Super Valu Stores for 32 years, starting in Des Moines, then transferring to Minneapolis, Minn., and finally to Xenia, Ohio.

Chuck was an active member and Elder of Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, where he was also involved with youth fellowship programs. He volunteered at Mound Golf Course for more than 15 years, served on the Super Valu Credit Union Board for more than 20 years and was an active member of the Antioch Shrine.

Chuck is survived by his sons, Greg Porterfield of Burnsville, Minn., and T.J. (Mary Jane) Porterfield of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandsons, Sean, Ben, and their mother Jane Porterfield; granddaughter Alexandra Porterfield, great-granddaughter April and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, parents; brothers, Robert and Everett; and sister Mary Belle Crawford.
