Bailey enjoys atmosphere, getting to know residents at Southern Hills

As the new assistant director of nursing at Southern Hills Specialty Care, Kelly Bailey said one of her favorite parts of the job is mingling with her residents.

“Just to be out on the floor — saying good morning — and just getting to visit with them and what not, I like that a lot. I just like the atmosphere here,” Bailey said.

Bailey started in her new position a month ago. She has been a nurse for 23 years.

Southern Hills Specialty Care is a skilled-nursing facility in Osceola.

“I was just ready for something different, so I came out here, and they offered me this position,” she said.

Bailey is familiar with Southern Hills Specialty Care since she used to work there as a floor nurse, but that was only two to three times a year.

“I really love it,” she said. “I think we take good care of people. I think we have really good staff. I really enjoy it a lot.”

Responsibilities

Some of Bailey’s new job responsibilities include doing chart review, supervision of staff, hiring nursing staff, ordering and stocking nursing supplies and scheduling.

Being in charge of scheduling is the hardest part of the job, Bailey said, since “it changes every day, every shift almost sometimes.”

If you recognize Bailey’s name it’s because she’s involved in the community, as well. She will soon begin her third year of serving on Clarke Community School Board.

Bailey said she volunteers a lot of her time within the school district since she has a child who is currently a junior.

As for Bailey’s job at Southern Hills Specialty Care, she said there are many things she hopes to accomplish.

“My huge, lofty goal is that we get a group of staff here that really wants to be here and they stay here. That there’s not so much turnover,” Bailey said.
