So Young Wheeler, 68, of Leon died Nov. 17, 2013, of cancer at Westview Acres in Leon.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Leon Bible Church. The Rev. Clegguart Mitchell officiated. Burial was in Cambridge Cemetery in Story County. Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Gideons Auxiliary.
So Young Wheeler, daughter of Jeong Bom (Lee) and Tai Hwan Chon, was born Nov. 11, 1945, in Seoul, Korea.
So Young grew up in Seoul and graduated from Bo Song High School.
So Young met Harold Richard Wheeler, while he was stationed in Seoul with the U.S. Army.
On May 29, 1971, So Young married Richard at Maxwell Church of the Brethren.
The family made their home in Cambridge, before moving to rural Leon in 1975.
So Young helped Richard on the farm and was a homemaker.
So Young worked at O’Bryan Brothers in Leon as a cutter for 11 years. She then worked at Osceola Foods as a multi-vac wrapping bacon, retiring after eight years of service.
So Young became a United States citizen in 1976.
So Young was a long-time member of Leon Bible Church, formerly the Independent Bible Church. She helped with Bible school, went to church camp every year as a cook, and helped in the kitchen with the other church women.
So Young is survived by her husband Richard Wheeler of Leon, daughter Lena (husband Robert) Newburg of Osceola, son Keith (wife Lindy) Wheeler of Osceola; grandchildren, Kelsey, Jordan, Shannon, Dakota, Blaine, Coty, Keara and Kale; great-grandchildren, Alex, Catalaya, and Leah; brothers, Yong Woon Chon (wife Chong Boon) of Seoul, Young Jun Chon (wife Soon Hwa) of Chicago, Yong Jae Chon (wife Soo Myung) of Skokie, Ill., and Yong Man Chon and Yong Soon Chon of Seoul; sister Yong Hee (husband Gerald) Cox of El Paso, Texas, and all of their families; mother-in-law Florence Evelyn Wheeler of Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, sister-in-law Roxana (husband William) Currie; brothers-in-law Robert (wife Rhonda) Wheeler and Roger (wife Lisa) Wheeler and their families; other relatives and many friends.
So Young was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law Harold Richard Wheeler.
