Brimms collecting items for Haitian orphanage through Global Compassion Network

WELDON – Sixteen-year-old Kooper Brimm, along with his mother Sue, of Weldon are collecting items for the Consolation Center, a girls orphanage in Haiti, through Global Compassion Network.

This past June, Kooper and Sue joined FFA members from across the United States in traveling to Haiti on a GCN mission trip. Trip members built Safe T Homes® — a highly-modified grain bin that provides housing for displaced people in Haiti — and also worked at the Consolation Center that houses more than 50 orphan girls.

Kooper said he wanted to serve in Haiti to “make a difference no matter how small it may be”, while Sue said she was excited to “see the world through the eyes of my son and share it with him.”

Now that they’ve returned home, they felt the need to do something to help those they met in Haiti.

“We were both touched by the girls at the Consolation Center,” Sue said, who works at Clarke Community High School. “So we decided to start the Consolation Center Care Campaign drive to collect needed items.”

Those items include:

• Vitamins (gummy, chewable)

• Tylenol (liquid, chewable, regular)

• Cash donations

Items can be dropped off at Clarke Community High School, American State Bank, Clarke County State Bank and Fareway, all in Osceola.

If anyone would like to send a monetary gift, make the check payable to Global Compassion Network with “Consolation Center” in the memo line and mail to Sue Brimm, 207 3rd Ave. West, Weldon, IA 50264 or call 641-414-3535.
