Bob Courtney – Woodburn
Guy Robert "Bob" Courtney, son of Guy Thomas Courtney and Thelma (Baxter) Courtney was born October 4, 1937 at the family home in rural Warren Co., Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 75 years of age.
Bob graduated from Milo High School in 1955.
He served in the U.S. Army from February 1959 to February 1961, serving with the 153rd. Army Postal unit at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. Following an honorable discharge Bob entered the Iowa National Guard at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa and served until being honorably discharged in 1969.
Bob was united in marriage to Judith Ann Hunt on August 29, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa and two daughters blessed this union, Carie and Cathy. Bob and Judy raised their family on a farm near Woodburn, Iowa.
Bob worked as an Information Technology Administrator for KPMG in Des Moines for 25 years. Following retirement he helped in his daughter Cathy's accounting office in Osceola for several years.
Bob’s passion was singing and playing guitar. He enjoyed bluegrass music and was a member of several bluegrass associations. He and Judy enjoyed traveling to Bluegrass Festivals throughout the Midwest, entertaining audiences with their unique style of dancing. Friends enjoyed their late night “coffee” sessions. Bob never met a stranger.
Those relatives who preceded Bob in death were his parents and his brother Garry Courtney.
He leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Judith Courtney of Woodburn; daughter, Carie (Denny) Cottrell of Woodburn, IA, daughter, Cathy (Kenny) Blair of Osceola, IA, granddaughter, Brandi (Monte) Kastler of Bondurant, IA, granddaughter, Amanda Blair of Elk Horn, NE, granddaughter, Amelia Blair of Osceola, IA, granddaughter, Alicia Blair of Osceola, IA, granddaughter, Alexxa Blair of Osceola, IA, great grandchild, Ryne Kastler of Bondurant, IA, brother, Richard (Mary) Courtney of Osceola, IA, sister, Marie (Lyman) Stuart of Leon, IA, sister, Mary (Tom) Borrall of Creston, IA, sister, Linda Halsten of Creston, IA, sister, Carol (Steve) Bishop of Melcher, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.
An informal get together and jam session will be Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Cathy's office from 5 - 7. 115 E. Jefferson St. - Osceola.
Graveside services will be 9:30 AM - Friday - October 4, 2013 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity in Bob's name.
