Nevada Tournament

NEVADA — Clarke went 0-3 at the Nevada Tournament here on Saturday, with losses to Carroll, Iowa Falls-Alden and PCM, Monroe.

Baylie Balcaen finished with a team-high eight kills during the tournament, while Elly Eddy added six.

Kennedy Crees led the team with 17 digs. Mackenzi Otto finished with 15 assists. Maddi Heath had a team-high four aces, followed by Crees with three and Allyssa May with two.

Davis County 3, Clarke 0

Clarke dropped a South Central Conference matchup here Tuesday against Davis County, 25-14, 25-7, 25-15.

Baylie Balcaen led the Lady Indians with four kills, while Mackenzi Otto and Brenna Paul each finished with two. Kennedy Crees finished with a team-high 11 digs, while serving 10-of-10. Maddi Heath served 7-of-8 and Delaney May served 6-of-7.

Interstate 35 3, Wayne 0

TRURO — Interstate 35 swept Wayne here on Sept. 24 in a Pride of Iowa Conference tilt, 25-19, 25-22, 25-12.

Jenna Sandquist finished the match with a team-high 13 kills. She also recorded eight digs and one solo block, while serving 11-of-11 with two aces.

Freshman Slye Richardson added five kills with a team-high nine digs, while serving 16-17 with three aces. Rachel Flickinger recorded three kills with three digs and two solo blocks, serving 13-of-14 with four aces.

Haley Bean set 24 assists in the match.

"Consistency continues to be our battle," Interstate 35 head coach Mallory Peterson said. "Our defense has improved, but we have to eliminate errors to beat good teams. We have a full week of road games. This will be a really good test for us to see if we can get over this hump of inconsistency. We have worked really hard in practice and the girls know what we need to improve on."

Interstate 35 travels to East Union on Thursday, as Roadrunner head coach Mallory Peterson will coach against her high school team and coach.

The Roadrunners also went 3-0 at the Saydel Tournament on Tuesday, with two-set sweeps of Des Moines East, Des Moines North and Saydel.

Murray 3, Central Decatur 0

LEON — Central Decatur provided Class 1A 10th-rated Murray with a challenge early, but Murray stayed undefeated for the season with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-8 win over the Cardinals here on Monday.

Hannah Barber led a balanced attack for the Mustangs with 11 kills. Megan Oswald and Cheyanne Ashby each recorded eight kills, while Madison Gonseth and Kate Patton each finished with four kills.

Jade Lecy and Ashby each finished with four blocks, while Gonseth added two. Chellsea Jones served a perfect 15-of-15, while Gonseth had a big night at the service line, going 18-19 with six aces.

Patton finished 11-11 with one ace, and Ashby went 11-12 with one ace. Patton set 23 assists for the Mustangs.

"A great all-around team effort tonight," head coach Jerry Shields said. "Very balanced and good serving."

Streak snapped

SEYMOUR — Murray's 14-game winning streak to start the season came to a halt here Tuesday, as ninth-rated Grand View Park Baptist knocked off the 10th-rated Mustangs 25-17, 25-17 in a Bluegrass Conference triangular.

Murray bounced back to defeat host Seymour 25-19, 25-7 in the finale of the night.

"Grand View Park Baptist did a good job of taking away the net from us offensively and defensively," Murray head coach Jerry Shields said. "We came back well against Seymour to start the win streak again."

Hannah Barber led the Mustangs with 20 kills for the night and nine digs. She also served 17-of-17 with four aces.

Kate Patton served 24-of-25 with seven aces and set 29 assists. Megan Oswald contributed six kills and went 16-of-17 on serve receive, while Cheyanne Ashby had five kills and three blocks.

Madison Gonseth served 15-of-16 with two aces, and McKenzie case had seven digs while going 15-20 on serve receive.

Murray returns to action at home Monday against Mount Ayr.
