Josephine Blain Osceola

Josephine Blain, 93, of Osceola died Sept. 27, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital.

Per Josie’s wishes, she was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a future date. Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine McComas Blain, daughter of Florence “Flossie” (Morrow) and Seymour McComas, was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Osceola.

Josie received her education in Clarke County rural schools and graduated from Osceola High School.

On April 23, 1937, Josie married William Gerald Blain in Bethany, Mo.

Josie and Gerald farmed on and off in Clarke County for many years. They moved to Spring Valley, Ill., in 1950, where they started a Western Auto store that was moved to Sterling, Ill., in 1951.

From Illinois, they moved to Birmingham, Ala., for a year, then on to California.

In 1978, they retired from their jobs in California and moved back to Osceola, where they farmed for the rest of their lives.

Josie was a member of Eastern Star, Ophir Chapter No. 267, Leslie Ladies Auxiliary and the First Christian Church in Osceola.

Josie is survived by her sons, Larry (wife Martha) Blain of Bishop, Calif., and Lynn (wife Marcia) Blain of Osceola; grandchildren, Mark Blain of Bishop, Calif., Dawn (husband Brian) Sachleben of Olalla, Wash., Jeremy (wife Kristen) Blain of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Jamie (husband Marc) Craver of London, England; great-grandchildren, Jade Shedd of Corona, Calif., Breanne Blain of Austin, Texas, Tyler Blain of Las Vegas, Nev., Gavin Blain of Redondo Beach, Calif., Ellison and Waverly Craver of London, England, Devon Hickam of Olalla, Wash., and Danika and Cameron Hickam of Las Vegas, Nev.; nieces and nephews, Seymour Boatwright of Independence, Mo., Pamela Hoskins of Brookfield, Mo., Don and David Twombley of Des Moines,William Davis and Ruth Jacobs (Twinkle) of Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2000; sisters, Kathryn Blain and Eva Lee Boatwright; brother Joseph McComas; and granddaughters, Jill (in infancy) and Michelle Blain.
