Clarke County Democrats to receive $750
DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Chair Scott Brennan released the recipients of the 2013 County Party Partnership Program grants.
These grants are awarded to county Democratic parties to assist in helping each of their counties reach out to new voters, expand the reach of the Democratic Party or acquire new resources to help their party grow.
This program is named in honor of U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, who, throughout his career, helped strengthen and grow local county Democratic parties.
Clarke County Democratic Party will receive $750 to support efforts to create a website and facilitate social media trainings for volunteers and activists.
“Few politicians have done more than Senator Harkin to help build, grow and support our county parties, and we are honored to announce the winners of this year’s Harkin County Party Partnership Grants,” said Scott Brennan, Iowa Democratic Party chair. “These grants will be used to expand the reach of our local parties and give them the tools and resources they need to be successful. At a time when our counterparts are embracing extreme policies that do not reflect Iowa’s values, Democrats are coming together to work for a strong 2014 election season.”
“The strength of the Democratic Party comes from the grassroots,” Harkin said. “With this funding, county parties will be able to mobilize voters, build and strengthen the base. I am proud of the work of our county party activists, and I know that with these funds they will lead the charge towards great Democratic victories in 2014.”
The Harkin County Party Partnership Grant was started in 2011 to assist county parties in their outreach efforts. This year, 45 counties will share $30,000 in grant funds. The funds will be distributed in the coming weeks.
