New faces in victory lane on LifePoint Church Night at CCS

It was another great night for racing at southern Iowa’s Action Track for the LifePoint Church Night. Eighty-four cars gave the packed grandstand a show with three new drivers taking home victories at CCS.

Starting out the feature events were the Jr. FWD division with six cars starting the field. Logan Richards from Creston wasted no time to get to the lead as he led the field from the first lap to the checkers to pick up his first win at CCS on his second visit. Norwalk’s Chase Rudolf followed Richards to a second place finish. Third went to T. J Woods, point leader Niki Sparks finished fourth and Katelyn Byrd rounded out the top five.

The Pro 4 Trucks were up next with heat race winner Kristen Clark and Erin Mundy on the front row. At the drop of the green flag, Kyle Byrd took over the lead on the first lap with Garrit McKee close behind. Garrett Nelson worked his way through the field to the third position after starting at the tail with the Mundys close behind. Byrd held off McKee for his second win of the season. McKee and Nelson followed with Erin Mundy winning the battle over her brother for fourth spot. Cody Mundy finished the top 5.

Twenty-nine Iowa Micro Sprint drivers signed in for the Saturday nights action. After five heats and a last chance qualifier, the field of 24 was set for the A-Main. Cory Forsyth took the advantage of his front row starting spot to lead the field with Dan Henning of Knoxville in second and Jared Klabunde in third. Last race's Micro Sprint winner, Tyler Nelson, worked his way up from his ninth starting spot to fourth. After a caution, Forsyth held the lead for his second win of the season at the speedway. Nelson battled his way to second. Point leader Eric Bridger followed in third with Dan Henning in fourth and Jared Klabunde in fifth.

Next up were the CCS B-Mods with 10 cars signed in for the night. Veteran driver Jack Meyer from Ankeny was perfect on the night winning his heat race then led all 16 laps for his first victory at CCS. Colton Nelson battled his way to second with heat race winner Jason Mason in third. Scott and Josh Bear were close behind for fourth and fifth.

The Outlaw Hobby Stocks followed with their feature event. Osceola’s Brodie Buckingham led the first couple of laps until Des Moines' David Castellano took over on lap five and led for the next four laps. Point leader Trevor Tanner used the low line to battle with Castellano until taking over the lead on nine. From there on out, it was Tanner leading the way to grab another feature win in 2013. Castellano was second, Trent Jeanes in third. Fourth went to Randy Johnston and fifth Darin Dezwarte.

Capping off the night of great racing were the FWD Street Stocks. Rookie driver Autumn Rose lead the way for the first five laps until Dean Richards made the pass on the high side to get the lead. Rose battled with Tanner Gottman and Jamie Black for position until Black pulled off late in the race with a flat tire. In the end it was Richards picking up the win with Rose in second, third was Gottman. Fourth place went to new point leader Joshua Camden and fifth Alan Delker.

We would like to thank everyone once again for coming out to the races on Saturday. Full results and points can be found on our website, www.clarkecountyspeedway.com. The next race is season championship night September 21!
