Youths receive airplane rides

More than 35 children from the Hiz Kidz program received airplane rides Aug. 23 at Osceola airport through generous donations from the pilots of local Chapter 1143 of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) Young Eagles program.

Wisconsin-based EAA is the world’s largest sport aviation organization that was formed in 1953 to support individuals who build and restore their own aircraft. Since its inception in 1993, the Young Eagles program has flown more than 1.7 million young people. Those who participate receive the Young Eagle distinction and are awarded a certificate and may obtain a patch. All Young Eagle’s names are entered into the world’s largest logbook, which can be accessed online.

The Hiz Kidz program is offered to all Clarke students at the elementary school and meets from 3-6 p.m. Monday evenings during the school year. Hiz Kidz participants engage in activities and games, study basicmoral concepts, receive a meal and get help with their homework.
