Paul James, 97, of Osceola died Aug. 21, 2013, at Southern Hills Specialty Care.
Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Dr. Al Adams officiated. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a tribute to be decided at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.
Paul Roy James, son of Ella May (Randolph) and Thomas Joseph James, was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Lucas County.
Paul attended country school at Wren Hill in Lucas County.
He attended the Catholic church and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Woodburn, where he was a member.
In 1940, Paul married Aletha Ewoldsen James in Princeton, Mo.
Paul and Aletha farmed in Lacona before moving to Hood River, Ore., where Paul worked in the fruit orchards. The family returned to Iowa a few years later, and Paul worked for Iowa Southern Utilities, the railroad and lastly for Clarke County Secondary Road Crew for more than 30 years.
Paul is survived by his son Larry (wife Janet) James of Osceola; grandson Tommy (wife Sandra) James of West Des Moines; granddaughter Tammy (husband Joe) Schmitz of Urbandale; great-grandchildren, Mason James and Matthew and William Schmitz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2000; brothers, William, Raymond, Joseph, Earnest, Johnnie and Earl James; and sister Twyla Powell.
