Charles McVey Osceola

Charles McVey, 87, of Osceola died Aug. 14, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Roger Howe officiated. Interment with military rites was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Charles Junior McVey, son of Cora Merle (Kimmel) and Charles Omer McVey, was born July 25, 1926, in Creston.

Charles received his education at Clarke County Country Schools. He began working at an early age to help support his family.

Charles served in the United States Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of seaman first class.

On Feb. 23, 1948, Charles married Dorothy Howe McVey in Corning.

After their marriage, Charles and Dorothy made their home in Des Moines for nearly 37 years before moving back to the Osceola area in 1989.

Charles was primarily a carpenter by trade and was accomplished in all facets of construction.

He was a member of Carpenters Local No. 106.

Charles is survived by his children, Randal McVey of Lawton, Okla., Sharon (husband Gary) Bennett of Knoxville, Kendal (wife Catherine) McVey of Chicago, Ill., and Linda (husband Jim) Kinney of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Tony, Terri, Robbie, Cori, Troy, Tasha, Thomas, Kelsey, Sean, Sarah, Trina, Anna and Michael; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Darlene Harlan of Osceola, Phyllis (Wayne) Welcher of Des Moines and Norma Burr of Coin; brothers, Gary (Ilene) McVey of Osceola, Truman (Maryann) McVey of Calif., Max (Pam) McVey of Indianola, Robert “Bob” (Claire) McVey of Mount Ayr and Darrell McVey of Weldon; many other relatives and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister Carmen Neer; brother Eldon McVey; daughter-in-law Chris McVey; sister-in-law Joan McVey and brother-in-law
Dean Neer.
