Search is on for new activities director

The search for a new activities director (AD) for Clarke Community School District continues, and it’s taken a few twists and turns.

A Clarke School Board special meeting was held July 31. The board went into closed session before approving personnel resignations and recommendations.

On the July 31 meeting agenda, there was a recommendation to approve the hiring of Mike Niece as the AD/high-school assistant principal.

Clarke Superintendent Benita Gonzales said the board didn’t approve the personnel recommendation of hiring Mike Niece.

“We’re going to reopen the search for activities director, and we will be doing that immediately,” Gonzales said during an interview after the meeting. “The board has just decided that that’s the direction we want to go.”

Just AD

Throughout the school board meetings in July, there has been discussion by the board and school officials of whether to divide the position responsibilities of an AD/assistant principal.

Gonzales said the new job search was going to be just for an AD position.

“We will be distributing the discipline or the other management issues that an AP (assistant principal) usually takes on,” she said. “We’ll be distributing between our building principal and our court liaison.”

As for a timeframe with hiring a new AD, Gonzales said since the board’s decision is so recent, she isn’t prepared to give a deadline.

The first day of school for students is Aug. 19.

“I certainly am going to say we’re going to move as quickly as possible,” Gonzales said.
