Parents as Teachers scam reported in Murray

The public should be advised there was a person in the Murray community claiming to be a Parents as Teachers educator.

According to a report from Victoria Brammer, Parents as Teachers educator, this person was going door-to-door and asking families how old their children were. For the record, Parents as Teachers do not go door-to-door for recruitment. Parents as Teachers recruit in the community at public places.

This was a statEment sent to them by Jen Mitchell, Clarke County educator:

They are driving a red or maroon Nissan Altima with Tennessee license plates, E49-69E, and there were two of them today. They were telling families today they were from The Village, Parents as Teachers and the school. They have done their homework and identified the daycare by name and know at least a little bit about us, as well. They told families where Parents as Teachers was located. They also told families they received a list of children from PAT, the school and The Village. Police have been notified in Clarke County. When they were approached, they told them they were selling ‘books.’ Law enforcement explained, in order to do that, they will need to get a peddlers license, which they have not shown up to do the paperwork.

Parents as Teachers has no idea if they have left or have decided to come to Union County next. Do not provide any information to them, they are not in any way affiliated with Parents as Teachers. The Parents as Teachers office number is 641-782-2888.
