Art Johnson, 81, of Osceola died July 5, 2013, at his home northeast of Osceola.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. Cremation followed the services.
Arthur Richard Johnson, son of Minnie Louise (Rose) and Joseph William Johnson, was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Billings, Mo.
Art attended Clarke County rural schools and graduated from Osceola High School in 1950.
Art enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea during the Korean War. He earned the good conduct medal, sharpshooter medal, two battle stars and achieved the rank of staff sergeant in two years.
Art returned from Korea and farmed with his father. He also was a master carpenter, building and remodeling homes in Clarke and surrounding counties. He worked as a brick and stone mason. He remodeled and built homes and businesses in Texas, Missouri and Illinois.
On Feb. 4, 1961, Art married Vickie Douglass.
Arthur is survived by his wife Vickie Johnson of Osceola; daughter Rhonda Johnson of Des Moines; sons, Richard (Cindy) Johnson of Sanborn and Russell (Cindy) Johnson of Osceola; grandsons, Chris (Crystal) Sage of Edmond, Okla., Wes (Monica) Sage, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Bryce (Heather) Sage of Cedar Falls; granddaughters, Lacy, Katie and Jesi Johnson of Osceola; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Oakley and Norma Warner, both of West Des Moines; 28 nieces and nephews; 48 great-nieces and -nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; son Robert Johnson; sisters, Vera McDougal and Lucy Johnson; brothers, Roy and Leslie Johnson; father-in-law Lester Douglass; mother-in-law Rebecca Douglass; brothers-in-law, Gerald McDougal, Frank Pennock, Robert Oakley and Waldo Warner; nieces, Dorothy McGill and Michelle Erlewine and nephews, Benji Douglas and William Page.
