Charles McKnight Osceola

Charles McKnight, 61, of Osceola died July 5, 2013, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines.

Services were held 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. John Dunsdon officiated. Interment was in Liberty Cemetery with military honors provided by Offutt Air Force Base Honor detail and Davis Pence Post No. 69 of the American Legion of Osceola. Memorials may be given to Toys For Tots. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Charles “Chuck” William McKnight, son of Hilda (Kinkennon) and Glenn William McKnight, was born Dec. 19, 1951, in Osceola.

Charles was raised on the family farm in Liberty Township.

Charles graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1970 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1971. He served in Alaska and Turkey. He was also stationed in Germany, Texas, Illinois, Utah and California.

In 1991, Tech. Sgt. McKnight retired from the Air Force and returned to Osceola, where he first worked as a telephone technician and later as a “slot technician” for Prairie Meadows and Lakeside Casino, finally retiring in 2004.

Charles is survived by his sister Glenda; brothers, Richard (Marcia) and Steven (Dorthey), all of rural Osceola; five nieces and nephews and their nine children; five aunts and dozens of cousins and their families and many friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents and many aunts and uncles.
