Murray sweeps

MURRAY — Murray pitchers Kate Patton and Danielle McIntosh tossed a pair of no-hitters here June 18 against Bluegrass Conference opponent Diagonal.

Murray swept the doubleheader by scores of 15-0 and 12-0, both in just three innings.

The Mustangs scored six runs in the first inning, five in the second and four in the third inning of the first game, which was more than enough for Patton, who struck out eight in three innings and allowed just two baserunners.

At the plate, McKenzie McIntosh went 3-for-4 with a triple, double and a single, while driving in three runs. Patton hit an inside the park home run.

Megan Oswald went 2-2 with a triple and three RBI. Caitlyn Weir drove in a pair of runs, as did Madison Gonseth.

In the nightcap, Danielle McIntosh hit a triple and drove in four runs, while Gonseth tripled and drove in three runs. Deena Snyder was 2-3 and drove in two runs.

McIntosh struck out eight in the win.

Murray improved to 14-4 for the season.

MSM 9, Interstate 35 8

ST. MARYS — Interstate 35, ranked eighth in Class 3A, suffered just its third loss of the season in a nine-inning 9-8 loss to Martensdale-St. Marys here on June 20.

The Blue Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings, and then plated one in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.

Jordan Williamson had a big day at the plate for the Roadrunners, going 3-for-5 with three doubles and three runs batted in. Caitlin Weeks also went 3-5 and drove in two runs. Brooke Brommel went 3-5.

Brittany Mease, Hanna Bryant and Megan Woods each drove in one run for the Roadrunners.

Weeks gave up nine runs on 14 hits in 8 2/3 innings of work, walking two and striking out one.

Interstate 35 7, Mount Ayr 1

TRURO — The Roadrunners bounced back with a 7-1 win over Mount Ayr here on Friday.

Brittany Mease went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in to lead the Roadrunners to the win. Jordan Williamson, Caitlin Weeks and Josie Wickett each drove in one run in the win.

Brooke Brommel went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Jenna Sandquist also collected three hits.

Weeks allowed just four hits and struck out nine with no walks in the win.

Greene County 5, Interstate 35 0

JEWELL — Interstate 35 fell 5-0 to Greene County here on Saturday in the South Hamilton Tournament.

Jordan Williamson was the only Roadrunner to collect multiple hits, finishing 2-for-2. Jenna Sandquist hit a double in the loss.

Caitlin Weeks allowed five runs on six hits, while striking out five.

Interstate 35 12, Prairie Valley 0

JEWELL — Jenna Sandquist hit a home run and drove in four runs to help lead Interstate 35 past Prairie Valley, 12-0, here Saturday in the South Hamilton Tournament.

Sandquist finished the game 1-for-4 and scored three runs. Brooke Brommel went 2-3 and drove in a run, while Hanna Bryant and Josie Wickett each drove in one run. Wicket finished 2-2. Jordan Williamson also collected two hits and hit a home run.

Sanquist pitched a five-inning complete game in the shutout, striking out seven.

Interstate 35 10, South Hamilton 3

JEWELL — Interstate 35 finished off the South Hamilton Tournament here Saturday with a 10-3 win over the host team.

Gracey Griglione went 2-for 3 with a double and three RBI, while Jordan Williamson drove in two runs. Jenna Sandquist and Riley Morris each finished with one RBI. Sandquist added three stolen bases.

Sandquist pitched one inning, giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout. Caitlin Weeks pitched four innings of relief and earned the win, giving up one run on five hits with four strikeouts.
