Donald Byerly, 77, of Osceola died June 12, 2013.
Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family for a fitting tribute to be decided at a later date.
Donald Ernest Byerly, son of Delores Elizabeth (Muck) and Ernest Lindley Byerly, was born Oct. 17, 1935, in Clarke County.
A lifetime resident of Clarke County, Don received his education in rural country schools and graduated in 1954 from Osceola High School.
On Feb. 16, 1957, Don married Katherine Lea Strong in Lamoni.
They raised their two children on the family farm, where Don had lived since he was 4 years old.
Don was a member of the Church of Christ in Murray, Clarke County Sheriff’s Posse and rescue unit, and also served on the Farm Service Board for many years in Humeston.
Don is survived by his wife Katherine Lea Byerly of Osceola; daughter Michelle “Shelley” Wilson of Leon; twin grandsons, Austin and Colton and granddaughter Mindy Wilson, all of Leon; sisters, Wanda (Dan) Myers of Green Valley, Ariz., and Janice (Wyman) Young of Mesa, Ariz.; sister-in-law Lois (Leo) Stevenson of Lamoni; cousins, Richard Byerly of Creston and Bob Gamble of Des Moines; other relatives and many friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and son Michael Ernest Byerly in 2003.
