Clarke drops conference doubleheaders to Albia, Centerville

Clarke baseball dropped to 1-9 for the season with a pair of South Central Conference doubleheader losses.

The Indians fell to Albia 12-0 and 17-0 at home on June 3 and then lost 12-2 and 14-0 on June 6 at Centerville.

In the opener against Albia, Yahia Aly collected the only hit of the game for Clarke, as Albia scored three runs in the first and eight in the second.

Sophomore Trevor Kirkpatrick picked up the only hit of the game for the Indians in the nightcap against Albia.

In the opener against Centerville, the Big Reds jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Clarke pushed two runs across in the fifth inning.

Landon Spurgin went 1-for-2 in the game with a run scored, while Dustan Van Loon stole a base and scored a run.

Also collecting hits for the Indians were Kale Reed, Kirkpatrick and Gable Reece.

In the nightcap, Van Loon collected the lone hit of the game for the Indians.

Clarke hosts the Clarke Subway Baseball Classic here on Saturday.

The Indians open the Subway Baseball Classic with a 10 a.m. game against defending Class 1A state champion Martensdale-St. Marys.

Martensdale-St. Marys takes on Wayne in the second game at noon, followed by Clarke vs. Wayne at 2 p.m.

If games get ahead of schedule, they will continue to run ahead of schedule. Admission for the tournament is $5 for adults and $4 for students. No passes will be accepted.
