Aronia bush to be planted at Osceola library
MISSOURI VALLEY — Sixth generation Iowa family farmer Andrew Pittz is visiting all 99 counties to celebrate Iowa agriculture and the highest antioxidant "Superfood" — the aronia berry. The Pittz family reintroduced the then-endangered aronia berry nearly two decades ago at Sawmill Hollow, just down the road from the family's Century Farm.
"The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative sets out to make our state the healthiest in the nation by 2016. In the last year we have moved from the Top 20 to the Top 10 with farmers like Andrew Pittz of Sawmill Hollow, the aronia berry and these great public-private partnerships,” Gov. Terry Branstad said.
Pittz will plant an aronia berry bush at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Osceola Library.
