Gordon Harris, 80, of Greer, S.C., died May 20, 2013, in Greer, S.C.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. Interment of his cremains will be in Fremont Cemetery. Gordon Keith “Tinker” Harris, son of Edith (Williams) and Hylvin Harris, was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Freemont Township in Clarke County.
Tinker grew up in New Virginia and graduated from New Virginia High School in 1950.
On May 19, 1950, Tinker married Mary Ellen Marks.
Tinker farmed and worked for Iowa Southern Utilities from 1960 to 1962.
Tinker was a member of New Virginia Lions Club and Habitat for Humanity in Hawaii.
Tinker worked for Colonial Pipeline, which took his family to New Jersey for 30 years.
On May 13, 1975, Tinker married Dorothy Smith Woodson.
Tinker retired from Colonial in 1993 as a supervisor, having worked for 29 years.
Tinker moved to Hawaii, where he lived for two years, before moving to Greer, S.C., eight years ago.
Tinker is survived by his daughters, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Richard) Potter of Pleasant Hill, Ramona Kathleen “Kathy” (Mike) Keith of Lyman, S.C., Diana Jeanne (Jerry) Duquette of Pleasant Hill, Rachel Lynne Schroeder of Lebanon, Tenn., Rebecca Lea Harris of Norwalk, Naomi Jeanette Stewart of Lebanon, Tenn., and Faith Marie (Paul) Odenthal of Bonne Terre, Mo.; stepdaughters, Brenda Jean (Robert) Hermanson of Elkins, W.Va., Joan Carolyn Miles of Sicklerville, N.J., and Jayne Ellen Woodson of Elkins, W.Va.; brothers, Gene (Darlene) Harris of Midland, Texas, and Charles “Brownie” Harris of Carlisle; sisters, Virginia Shaver of Des Moines, Carolyn (Larry) Goodrich of Osceola, Elaine (LaVern) Bullard of Panora and Vicki (Jim) Asmus of Osceola; sister-in-law Margaret Harris of Iowa City; 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Tinker was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister-in-law Phyllis Shoup Harris; brother Doyle Harris and grandson-in-law Bobby Thomason.
