Osceola Fourth of July Committee has released the schedule of events for the July 3-6 celebration.

Kenny’s Funland returns to provide the carnival entertainment around the square all four days again this year. The celebration begins on the bandstand on the square with the opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, where the results of the pie baking contest will be announced.

The Little Miss Osceola and Little Mr. Osceola Contests will follow at 6:30 p.m. Applications for the contests are available at American State Bank, Clarke County State Bank, Great Western Bank and Clarke County Publishing office. Abby Normal, a rock band from Des Moines, will take the bandstand from 7 until 11 p.m.

The festivities on July 4 start at 11 a.m. with the parade. A Show and Shine car and motorcycle show in the Fareway parking lot is planned after the parade. The talent show will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on the bandstand followed by music by local talents Rick Burke and Jeff Reikena from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Heath Allan will be playing on the bandstand from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. In the event of rain, the fireworks will be set off at 10p.m. Saturday, July 6.

Friday’s events start with a Kids’ Olympics, games and contests for elementary-age children, at 2:00 p.m. David Watson will be playing on the bandstand from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The street dance featuring the group Standing Hampton will be from 8:00 p.m. to midnight in front of the fire station.

A Kids’ Tractor Pull on the north side of the square starts Saturday’s line-up. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the starting pull at 10 a.m. It’s not a sanctioned tractor pull, but it is still fun for the kids.

Osceola Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting water fights also on the north side of the square and will join Osceola Police Department in the Guns and Hoses Barbeque Cook-Off also on Saturday.

John Griffith’s band will be playing on the bandstand from 2 to 5 p.m. and country band G24 will play from 7 until 8 p.m. followed by Rebel Road from 8 until 11 p.m.

This is a nearly complete schedule but more events may be added before the Fourth of July Celebration gets underway.
