Marion Hurd Marshalltown

Marion Hurd, 88, of Marshalltown died May 11, 2013, under the care of Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Burial was 10 a.m. Thursday at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Marshalltown, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given in Marion's name to Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Marion Matthew Hurd, son of Evaline Anna (Bender) and Joseph Adrian Hurd, was born Aug. 9, 1924.

He was raised and educated in Perry and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1942.

Marion served in the Army Air Corps, now known as the Air Force.

On Feb. 14, 1950, Marion married Jean Elizabeth Doran in Perry.

For nearly 25 years, Marion farmed near Ogden, before moving to New Virginia in 1974, where he continued to farm.

Later, Marion worked for Jimmy Dean in Osceola for 13 years, retiring as a lead-man in maintenance.

Marion was a member of the church council and trustee at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Boy Scout leader, served on the parish council of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Osceola and member of the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Union.

Marion is survived by his wife Jean Hurd; children, Bob (Evelyn) Hurd of Redondo Beach, Calif., Jeff (Deb) Hurd of Hesston, Kan., Fr. Tim Hurd of Zwolle, La,. Ron (Ruth) Hurd of Marshalltown and Ginger (Mike) Broussard of Shreveport, La.; grandchildren, Erin, Kirsten, Stephanie, Rebecca, Christopher, Emily, Julie, Alex, Claire and Adrian; great-grandchildren, 
Annabel, Emma and Phoebe; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph and Eugene; and sister Arva.
