Norma Patterson Ida Grove

Norma Patterson, 85, of Ida Grove, died May 2, 2013, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. The Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiated. Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home, Ida Grove, was in charge of arrangements. Committal services were noon Tuesday, May 7, at Fremont Cemetery in Osceola. Norma Ann Shaw, daughter of Inez M. (Barr) and Arthur C. Shaw, was born June 22, 1927, in Stuart. She grew up on the family farm near Stuart.

Norma graduated from Stuart High School.

On June 16, 1952, Norma married Robert Patterson of Osceola in Storm Lake.

The couple made their home in Battle Creek, where they were employed by Christensen Funeral Homes in Battle Creek and Ida Grove. Norma worked alongside her husband at the funeral homes, which they purchased in 1972.

In 1976, Norma and Robert moved to Ida Grove.

Norma and Robert retired from the funeral business in 1988.

Norma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek. In previous years, she participated in ladies aide and PEO Chapter CB.

Norma is survived by her husband Robert; sister-in-law Bonelie (Alberts) Shaw Kinnetz; many nieces and nephews and their families, friends and neighbors.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters-in-law, Merritt C. and Arlene (Lang) Shaw, Edward B. Shaw and J. Leland and Shirley (Secrest) Shaw; and brother- and sister-in-law, Lester L. and Connie (Ashley) Patterson.
