Betty Smith, 87, of Osceola died April 25, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital.
Graveside services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Maple Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Julie Poore and the Rev. Dr. Clayton L. Smith officiated. Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., was in charge of arrangments. Memorials may be directed to Osceola United Methodist Church, 130 W. Grant, Osceola, IA 50213.
Betty Helen Smith, daughter of Ada May (McQuern) and June Calvin Cooley, was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Clarke County.
Betty received her education at Osceola High School.
On Oct. 19, 1946, Betty married Robert Wayne Smith.
She lived in Osceola the past 45 years.
Betty was a member of Starlight China Painting Club in Des Moines, World Organization of China Painters and Osceola United Methodist Church.
Betty is survived by her son Stephen Wayne (Edie) Smith of Osceola; grandchildren, Kevin Smith of Fort Charlotte, Fla., and Ken (Jeannie) Smith of Punta Gorda, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Craig, Brittney and Riley Smith; step-grandchildren, Greg Halmagyi of Sandwich, Ill., Stacy Halmagyi of Aurora, Ill., and Joe Halmagyi of Renton, Wash.; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Bob Cooley; and sister-in-law Helen Cooley.
