Roberta Christensen, 80, of Osceola died April 11, 2013, at Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Burial was in Leon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to HCI Osceola.
Roberta Ellen Christensen, daughter of Wilma Katherine and Robert Ernest Smith, was born March 29, 1933, in Tuskeego in Bloomington Township of Decatur County.
As a child, she attended school in Lamoni and later graduated from Eagleville, Mo.
On Feb. 14, 1954, Roberta married Paul Howard Christensen at the farm home of her parents near Blythedale, Mo.
After marriage, Paul and Roberta moved to Van Wert. Later, Paul and Roberta moved to Des Moines, where Roberta worked for J.C. Penny as a seamstress. Finally, the couple moved to Leon, where she worked as a cook at Decatur County Hospital, and they both operated a shoe repair and ceramic shop.
Roberta and Paul joined the Christian faith, and were baptized at Leon Christian Church in March 1954. They later transferred their membership to a Des Moines church and then to Loving Chapel United Methodist Church in Leon. In her final years, Roberta was active in the Osceola Methodist Church.
Roberta is survived by her daughters, Martha (Michael) Snell, Wilma Edgerton, Marie Dominguez and Christine (Mitchell) Krause; grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Snell, Marie and Justin Morrison, Roland and Samantha Edgerton, Nena and Andrew Geuss, Julia and Holly Dominguez and David and Adam Krause; great-grandchildren, Ryland and Dean Edgerton, Whittney Snell and Roman Geuss; siblings, Kathryn (Lawrence) Coubrough, Gary (Vivian) Smith, Larry (Virginia) Smith, Charles (Linda) Smith and Margaret (Marshall) Skinner; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1999; son Paul Jr. in 1969; grandson Robert Edgerton in 1981; and son-in-law Edward Edgerton in 2012.
