Loren Gaumer, 93, of Murray died April 9, 2013, at Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Murray Church of Christ. Interment was in Murray Cemetery. Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola, was in charge of arrangments. Loren Merton Gaumer, son of Katie Mae (Wolfe) and Chester Whipple Gaumer, was born April 1, 1920, in the family farm home near Murray.
Loren graduated from Murray High School in 1937. He attended Osceola Junior College and received his teaching certificate.
Loren taught school at Center School in Union County for two years.
Loren worked in an airplane factory in California, for John Deere in Waterloo, at the locker in Murray, delivered mail and worked at the movie theater in the evenings.
On May 3, 1941, Loren married Agnes Lorene Burchett in Bethany, Mo.
Loren was a volunteer in the Murray community. He helped build several churches in the area.
Loren was a member of Murray Church of Christ and served as an elder. He was a member of Surprise Lodge No. 396 A.F. & A.M. and later Osceola Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M. He was a longtime member of Murray Lions Club.
Loren is survived by his daughter Judy Gaumer of West Des Moines; sons, Ronald (wife Laura) Gaumer of Osceola and Randy (wife Jeanne) Gaumer of Murray; daughter-in-law Kathi Gaumer of Murray; grandchildren, Arnold Gaumer, Debby (husband Jimmy) Thomas, Rhonda Gillyard and Glenda Montoya, all of Temecula, Calif., Jeremy (wife Wendy) Gaumer of West Des Moines, Jacki (husband Matt) Rayburn of Fredericksburg, Va., Robb (wife Anne-Marie) Gaumer of Highland, Ind., and Elissa (husband Geoffrey) Rance of Schererville, Ind.; step-grandson, Steven Rea of San Francisco, Calilf.; great-grandchildren, Tara, Rachel, Connie, Chaz, Sean, Jamie, Taneisha, Keana, Frank III, Christopher, Natasha, Julia, Si, Maileah, Amber, Avi, Caeler, Rowan, Jacob and Ethan; great-great-granddaughter Amaya; other relatives and many friends.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Roger Gaumer; sister Dorothy Gaumer; brother Orville Gaumer and wife Arlene; and sister Ruby Franck and husband Robert; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Madge and Olin Strubhar and Gale and Lil Burchett.
