Clarke, CD open outdoor season at Winterset

WINTERSET — The Clarke and Central Decatur boys track teams opened their outdoor seasons at the Husky Invitational here on Friday.

Clarke finished eighth in the team standings with 29 points and Central Decatur finished 12th with eight points.

Pella ran away with the team title, scoring 150 points. Norwalk finished second with 72 points.

Clarke senior Logan Weers, a returning state qualifier in the 100 meters, 110 meter high hurdles and 200 meters, won the 110 meter high hurdles, clocking a time of 15.82 seconds, edging out Mount Ayr senior Braydee Poore, who ran 15.98 seconds.

Weers also finished fourth in the 100 meter dash, with a time of 12.00. Max Kasap of Earlham won the event with a time of 11.79.

Sophomore Gordon Witt also had a strong performance in the meet. Witt finished third in both the long jump (19-07.50) and the high jump (5-10), while also finishing sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.74.

Chasen Selsor was the only other Indian athlete to score points in the meet, finishing fifth in the 3,200 meters. Selsor clocked a time of 11:06.58.

Clarke competes at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn on Tuesday and then hosts the Crawford Invite at 5 p.m. today.

Central Decatur

Central Decatur senior Dalton Gilbert led the way for the Cardinals, finishing third in the shot put with a toss of 43-08.

Gilbert also finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.28.

The Cardinals also picked up points from sixth-place finishes in the shuttle hurdle relay and the 1,600 medley relay.

The shuttle hurdle team of Kyle Palmer, Jon Simmons, Peyton Pedersen and Austin Wells clocked a time of 1:05.37 to finish sixth. The medley relay team of Austin Wells, Wyman Reed, Trenton Wells and Alex Foltz ran 4:10.58 for sixth place.
