Theodore Quayle, 92, of Weldon died March 24, 2013, at Southern Hills Care Facility in Osceola, after a battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. The Rev. Rick Hawkins will officiate. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund has been established by the family.
Theodore “Ted” Clede Quayle, son of Gladys (Wagner) and Claude Quayle, was born June 8, 1920, in High Point Township of Decatur County near Garden Grove.
Ted attended country school near Weldon.
On Oct. 1, 1946, Ted married Normalee Wade, daughter of Tom and Alta Wade.
Ted worked for the Weldon and Clarke Community School Districts as a janitor and school bus driver for more than 25 years. He also delivered the Sunday Des Moines Register for 57 years and was president of the Weldon Depot committee, where he donated land for Quayle Park. He also served as Weldon mayor and on the city council for years.
Ted is survived by his wife Normalee Quayle; children, Rick Quayle of Lamoni and companion Peggy Smith of West Des Moines, Vickie and Gary Weaklend of Boone and Lanny and Pam Quayle of Winter Haven, Fla.; grandchildren, Corey and Niki Quayle, Nichole and Gabe Kelly, Brandon Quayle and companion Megan Overton, Cari and Brian Engleen, Kelli and Chris Wood and Courtney and Chris Vessely; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Jerry Quayle of Weldon; sister-in-law Cindy Quayle of Mississippi; other relatives and friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Edna Quayle; sister Dorthy Willis; brother Leo Quayle and sister-in-law Dona Quayle.
