Doris Powell Woodburn

Doris Powell, 96, of Woodburn died Feb. 25, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. The Rev. Jeff Eason officiated. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Doris Marie Powell, daughter of Ethel (Wharf) and John Chumbley, was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Warren County.

On March 2, 1937, Doris married Virgil Powell in Osceola.

Doris was a farm wife, raised sheep and worked side by side in the field with Virgil. She also cleaned Bethel Chapel.

She was a member of the Eagles.

Doris is survived by her daughter Carol Sue Clemens of Woodburn; grandchildren, Kelly Smart of Woodburn and Kirby Clemens and Kayla (Greg) Schrantz, all of Tucson, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Kelly Jo (Richard) Johnston of Chariton and Brigitte Schrantz and Kirby Schrantz, both of Tucson, Ariz.; great-great-grandchildren, Logan, Macy and Shelby Johnston, all of Chariton; sister-in-law Betty Chumbley of Milo; nephews, Bill Chumbley of Weldon, Gary Lee Chumbley of Milo, Lanny Weakland of Omaha, Neb., Carl Burrell of Des Moines and Jody Chumbley of Belle Plaine, Minn.; nieces, Lucille Reynolds of Osceola, Donna Carson of Woodburn, Inez Davenport of Osceola and Mary Lou Isley of Waterloo; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Homer, Harley, Harold “Dude” and Gerald Chumbley; sisters, Leona Burrell, Mabel Wilkerson, Margaret Weakland and Darlene Dixon; nephews, Merrill Burrell and Richard Weakland and niece Betty Hosack.
