Clarke boys lose close game to Davis County

The Clarke boys basketball team let an opportunity for a win slip away against Davis County here on Feb. 1, losing 76-67.

Clarke trailed 19-18 at the end of the first quarter, and 38-34 at halftime, but remained in striking distance.

But, Davis County got some separation in the third quarter thanks to a 19-13 advantage. Clarke won the fourth quarter 20-19, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

The Indians featured balanced scoring, as four players finished in double figures.

Dylan Diveney recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Indians. Brin Evins pitched in 16 points and eight rebounds. Colin Morris added 14 points, while Jared Jamison dropped in 10 points with four steals and three assists.

Matt Blanchard netted nine points for the Indians, which fell to 3-13 with the loss.

Clarke also suffered an 81-48 setback on Feb. 2 against Winterset on senior night.

Winterset jumped out to a 31-11 lead after the first quarter and held a 55-26 lead at halftime.

Morris led the Indians with 20 points, while Diveney chipped in 10 points with five rebounds and four blocks.

Jamison added nine points, while Blanchard scored six points. Evins scored two points, but grabbed nine rebounds.

Senior Mitch Lampe made 1-of-2 free throws to score one point.

Two senior players were honored for Clarke — Lampe and Johannes Zehnter.

Clarke opens postseason play on Monday at Central Decatur. The winner advances to take on Interstate 35 on Feb. 14.
