Clarke boys drop to 3-11

The Clarke boys basketball team dropped a pair of games over the past week to fall to 3-11 for the season.

In a Jan. 25 contest at Albia, the Indians played well in the second and third quarters, but a slow start and a 29-18 Albia run during the fourth quarter doomed the Indians in a 73-57 loss.

Colin Morris led the way with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Morris added two rebounds as well.

Jared Jamison chipped in 17 points in the loss, shooting 6-of-7 from the field with three assists and two rebounds. Brin Evins scored nine points with four rebounds and one assist.

Dylan Diveney added seven points with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Mitch Lampe added five poitns and four assists.

As a team, the Indians shot 50 percent from the field, but grabbed only 12 total rebounds.

In Monday's home game against Martensdale-St. Marys, the Indians got out to a good start, leading 15-14 after the first quarter.

But Martensdale-St. Marys responded with a 20-9 second quarter advantage to pull ahead 34-24 at halftime.

Clarke chipped away at that lead in the third quarter, closing it to 46-40, but the Blue Devils once again responded with a big quarter, this time outscoring the Indians 24-13 in the fourth quarter for a 70-53 win.

Morris led the way again, this time scoring 18 points to go with three rebounds and two steals. Brin Evins pitched in 10 points as the only other Indian player in double figures. He also grabbed nine rebounds, just missing a double-double.

Matt Blanchard scored eight points, while Diveney added seven points with seven rebounds. Jamison and Drew Wishon each scored four points, while Lampe added two points.

Clarke returns to action Friday against Davis County, with senior night on Saturday against Winterset.
