Roadrunners sixth at Rich Gray Classic

TRURO — Interstate 35 finished sixth out of 16 teams here Saturday at the Rich Gray Classic.

Eddyville-Blakesburg ran away with the team title, scoring 224 points. Albia finished second with 164.5 points and West Marshall came in third with 158 points. Interstate 35 finished sixth with 109 pints, just edging out Kuemper Catholic in seventh with 107.5.

Austin Pontier finished second at 106 pounds, losing by fall to Coleman Waters of Central Springs in the finals. Pontier pinned Eddyville Blakesburg's Tanner Rea in the quarterfinals and beat Kuemper Catholic's Brandon Gross 11-0 in the semis.

Lonnie Harper placed second at 220 pounds, losing a 10-4 decision to Eddyville-Blakesburg's Chance Wursta in the finals. Harper pinned his way to the finals, picking up wins over Newman Catholic's Colton Hanson and Van Meter's Spencer Benton.

Ethan Jones finished third at 182 pounds. Jones pinned Guthrie Center's Brad Patterson in the quarterfinals before being pinned by Eddyville-Blakesburg's Hunter Johnston in the semis. Jones won a 5-0 decision over Southeast Warren's Ty Schneider for third place.

Bobby Heilman placed fourth at 285 pounds. Heilman beat West Marshall's James Long in the quarterfinals before getting pinned by Guthrie Center's Dillon Suhr in the semis. Heilman then got pinned by Albia's Zach Davis in the third-place match.

Blake Kozak finished sixth at 138 pounds. Kozak was pinned by Norwalk's Austin Pierangeli in the quarterfinals before beating Kuemper Catholic's Dylan Dunn 12-6 in the consolation semis. West Central Valley's John Askren pinned Kozak in the fifth-place match.

Angelo Madonia earned fifth place at 152 pounds. Madonia won his opening match against Van Meter's Kurt Sankey with a pin in :29. Madonia was then pinned by Eddyville-Blakesburg's Treg Van Dorin.

Madonia moved to the consolation bracket, where he pinned Cardinal's Tyler Albert in :43, and then pinned Central Springs' Hunter Veech in 1:03 to finish fifth.

Zach Beem finished sixth at 160 pounds. Beem lost to Dale Hilleman of West Marshal by pin in the quarterfinals, and then won a 6-2 decision over Kuemper Catholic's Issack Anderson in the consolation bracket.

Next, Beem pinned Newman Catholic's Garrett Joyner in :37 before getting pinned by Eddyville Blakesburg's Dalton Brown in the fifth-place match.
