Clarke bowling earns pair of victories

The Clarke bowling team picked up a pair of victories, defeating Nodaway Valley on Jan. 17 and beating Mormon Trail on Monday.

The boys team rolled to a 300-plus pin victory over Nodaway Valley on Jan. 17, winning 2652-2333.

“This was by far the best performance by the boys this year,” head coach Dale Helgevold said. “We had a couple of lower games, but we bounced back and didn’t let it get us down, and had some nice games to carry us into the Baker round.”

Jacob Redman led a balanced effort by the Indians, posting a two-game series high score of 381. Skylar Johnson and Adam Smith rolled scores of 364 and 363, respectively. Nathan Compton added a 347 and Damon Helgevold scored a 337. Matt Beminio rolled a 274.

Clarke pulled away even more in the Baker Rotation, outscoring the Wolverines 860-766.

On the girls side, the Lady Indians posted a 160-pin victory over Nodaway Valley.

Sierra Penick led the way with a two-game series of 340, while Bailey Browne finished close behind with a 333. Courtney Clark posted a score of 293. Shyanne DeVore tallied a 227 and Elly Eddy scored a 214. Keleah Selsor finished with a 160.

“The girls had a strong performance and are continually coming together as a team,” Helgevold said, “and are making great strides in the right direction.”

Mormon Trail

Both teams bounced back to post big wins over Mormon Trail on Monday.

The boys rolled to a 2587-1649 win over the Saints.

Adam Smith posted the high score with a 427 two-game series, while Jacob Redman rolled a 403. Nathan Compton finished with a 371 and Damon Helgevold contributed a 347. Matt Beminio finished with a 284 and Caleb Grimm rolled a 273.

The girls, meanwhile, picked up a 2009-1274 victory.

Courtney Clark led the Lady Indians with a 291 two-game series, while Sierra Penick finished close behind with a 288. Keleah Selsor finished with a score of 269. Elly Eddy posted a 23 and Darian Short scored a 221. Emma Sells finished with a 219.

Clarke returns to action Monday against Mount Ayr.
