Darlene Deemer, 98, of Weldon died Jan. 12, 2013, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. The Rev. Jim Lane officiated. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in Clarke County.
Darlene Bonita (Young) Deemer, daughter of Dora Anise (Lee) and Robert Lee Young, was born July 7, 1914, in Osceola.
Darlene spent her childhood in Osceola, graduated from Osceola Junior College and went on to teach in rural schools until marrying.
On Dec. 31, 1938, Darlene married Charles Raymond Deemer and moved to the Weldon area to be his helpmate on the farm.
They retired to an acreage on the edge of Weldon.
Darlene was active in her church. She organized UMW dinners and projects. Darlene and Raymond provided weekly, after-worship snacks for many years at Weldon United Methodist Church, where Darlene was an adult Bible study leader and also created lessons for children.
Darlene is survived by her children Gareth (Connie) Deemer of Weldon, Charla (Emett) Joy of LeRoy and Jan (Ted) George of Twin Lakes (Rockwell City); grandchildren, Duane (Vicki) Deemer, Darla Miller, Carla Deemer, Boni (Rick) Rhum, Bryan Joy, Belinda (Charles) Hyland and Andrew, Brendan and Niles George; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 22, 2010; parents; siblings, Herbert, Harold, Geraldine and Donald who died in childhood; and twin infant granddaughters, Alayne and Brianna George.
