“I was a little disappointed in the way that we began the night,” Clarke head coach Brian Reece said. “We didn’t wrestle the way we are capable of. I think we may have been a little intimidated by I-35 because a lot of our kids know the kids from there.
“I challenged the kids to wrestle better the next two duals. I thought we responded well and came out much more aggressive against Bedford/Lenox and Winterset. We continue to gain valuable experience. The biggest thing that freshmen wrestlers need to learn is the difference between middle school and high school wrestling. There are a lot of things that will work in middle school that don’t work in high school. We are learning as we go.”
Winterset defeated Clarke by a 66-12 margin on Jan. 3.
Austin Penick picked up a win by fall at 113 pounds. Penick pinned Kolt Kiburz in 1:19. The only other win for the Indians came at 170 pounds, where Winterset forfeited to Jacob Bair.
Brett Moffett lost a close match at 132 pounds to Mitchell Holcomb, 3-2.
