Ross Lange Chariton

Ross Lange, 90, of Chariton died Jan. 2, 2013, at Lucas County Hospital in Chariton.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the First Lutheran Church, 1004 Curtis Ave., Chariton. The Rev. Rich Gates will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant at a later date. Memorials may be directed to First Augustana Lutheran Church ELCA in Lockridge or American Heart Association. Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

Ross Victor Lange, son of Freda (Petersen) and Mads Lange, was born July 23,1922, in Shelby County.

He graduated from Audubon High School in 1939.

Ross worked with his father on the farm and helped run the family seed corn business (Lange Hybrids) in Shelby County.

On Feb. 25,1950, Ross married Dorothy Petersen in Atlantic.

Ross and Dorothy moved to Fort Dodge where he worked several years as a salesman for Gus Giaser Meat Company. The family later moved to Clarke County, where Ross farmed and also sold for Harvester and Purina Feeds. The family then purchased a farm in Adair County near Greenfield, where they relocated. Later in life, Ross and Dorothy left the farm and moved to Des Moines, where he sold real estate.

After Ross’s retirement, he and Dorothy moved to the Mount Pleasant area.

Ross was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church ELCA in Lockridge.

Ross is survived by his wife Dorothy of Chariton; daughter Linda (husband Dr. Tom) Schilling of Corydon; sons, Donald (wife Marcia) Lange of Osceola; Randall Lange of Saint Charles and Scott (wife Sandra) Lange of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Eric (wife Kris) Lange of Osceola, Erin (husband Chad) Berentschot of lnwood, Kyle (wife Jessica) Lange of Osceola, Todd (wife Crystal) Schilling of Hampshire, Ill., Justin (wife Chasity) Lange of Mount Pleasant and Crystal (husband Dr. John) Even of West Des Moines; 13 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law JoAnn Petersen of Manning.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Ivan Petersen.
