Mel Eckman, 81, of Norwalk died Dec. 30, 2012, at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. Shane Simpson officiated. Interment was in Union Cemetery, north of Murray. Memorials may be directed to his family to be decided at a later date.
Mel Phillip Eckman Sr., son of Olive Cecil (Perew) and Laurence Elliott Eckman, was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mel spent his early years in Denver, Colo., until he left to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1947 to 1949. After his discharge, he moved to Los Angeles, Calif.
On April 14, 1956, Mel married Marguerite Movsesian in Las Vegas, Nev. Their marriage was also recognized in the Holy Cross Armenian Church in Los Angeles, Calif.
Mel worked as a parts manager at various automotive distributors, retiring after 30 years.
Mel is survived by his wife Marguerite Eckman of Norwalk; son Melvin Phillip (Kori) Eckman Jr. of Burbank, Calif.; daughter Rita (Jeff) Griffith of Murray; former daughter-in-law Jackie Eckman of Santa Ana, Calif.; granddaughter Elizabeth Eckman of Flagstaff, Ariz.; great-grandson Antone J. Martinez of Flagstaff, Ariz.; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; grandson Curtis Phillip Eckman; brother Laurence Eckman; sister Joyce Trinkle-Stewart; mother-in-law Melina Movsesian; grandparents-in-law, Azniv and Keveork Garabedian; uncle-in-law Hurant Garabedian and nephew Robert Trinkle.
