Robert ‘Bob’ McCann Osceola

Robert “Bob” McCann, 83, of Osceola died Dec. 25, 2012, at Clarke County Hospital.

Services were 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Hugh Stone officiated. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family to be decided at a later date.

Robert Lee McCann, son of Roma Fern (Orndorff) and Arthur McCann, was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Princeton, Mo.

Robert attended rural country schools and graduated from Osceola High School in May 1947. He attended Chillicothe Business School in Chillicothe, Mo., for two years.

Robert worked for Lewis Chevrolet Company in Osceola as an accountant until November 1950 when he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.

On Feb. 24, 1951, Robert married Joan Elizabeth Jensen in Osceola in the Methodist Church parsonage.

After his discharge, Robert served as deputy clerk of court, county recorder and county assessor.

In June 1964, Robert opened his own insurance agency and semi-retired from that in June 1991.

Robert was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 69 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5457.

Robert is survived by his wife Joan McCann of Osceola; daughter Kay (Michael) Lowder of Urbandale; daughter-in-law Deanne (Rick) McCann-Chind of Osceola; grandchildren, Matthew Lowder of Ames, Ryan Lowder of Urbandale, Kristina McCann of Ankeny and Nathan McCann of Osceola; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Gary Arthur and Kevin Phillip McCann; and grandparents, Phillip and Anna McCann.
