Lowell Alan Swarthout Chariton

Alan Swarthout, 67, of Chariton died Dec. 21, 2012, at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Fielding Funeral Home, 227 S. Grand, Chariton. The Rev. Emery McDonald officiated. Interment was in Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Lucas County Humane Society or Chariton Public Library.

Lowell Alan Swarthout, son of Lowell E. and Betty Swarthout, was born in Chariton.

He was raised in Chariton and graduated from Drake University.

Alan became a CPA, and during his working career, he resided in Des Moines, Washington, Iowa, Walcott and Chariton.

In January 1967, Alan married Dee Milnes.

In 1997, Alan retired from his position as treasurer for Deflecta-Shield Corporation.

Alan is survived by his wife Dee; children, Michael Jon (Melissa) Swarthout and Jason Patrick (Heather) Swarthout; mother Betty; brothers, Don (Doris) of Pace, Fla., and Tom (Julie) of Chariton; nieces; nephews and grandchildren, Cash, Drew, Erin, Ethan, Tatum, Mitchell and Will.
