Laura Jones Newton

Laura M. Jones, 81, of Newton, formerly of Monroe, died Dec. 24, 2012, at her home under the care of Skiff Hospice.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Wallace Family Funeral Home, 1115 E. 19th St. N., Newton. Memorials may be directed to Skiff Hospice and left at the funeral home.

Laura M. Jones, daughter of Florence (Smith) and Clarence Young, was born May 26, 1931, in Newton.

On Aug. 25, 1961, Laura married Al Jones in Des Moines. The couple had lived in Newton for the past five years. Prior to that, they lived in Monroe for almost 30 years.

Laura worked as a nurses’ aid in Pella. She also worked in the kitchen at Murray Community Schools, Central College and Willowbrook Adult Daycare in Newton.

Laura was a member of the First Assembly of God in Newton and Murray Church of Christ.

Laura is survived by her husband Al of Newton; daughters, Pam Dyer (fiancé Dwight Clevenger) of Missouri, Denice Smith of Missouri, Laura (Gary) Motarie of Newton and Susan (Rob) Ham of Reasnor; grandchildren, Jamie Jeter, Kalee Carey, Cory Wilcox, Andrea Davis, Tyler and Taylor Danley and Treyton, Emma and Grace Ham; nine great-grandchildren; brother David (Alicia) Young of St. Louis, Mo.; many nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Debra; and brother Ronald Young.
